Today She Won’t Be There

June 27th, 2011 by Linda Jenkinson
  • Today she won’t be there.
  • The woman, who captured your attention
  • Who sat on the edge of her chair
  • As she kept you on the edge of your seat
  • And talked for hours.
  • Whose flashing eyes reflected your smile.
  • Today she won’t be there.
  • The woman who engaged you
  • In witty repartee for hours on end
  • She has her own husband
  • And family
  • And friends.
  • Today you’ll look around and see
  • She won’t be there.
  • As I sat quietly in the shadows
  • And tried not to listen,
  • Tried not to see your smile.
  • All the while knowing
  • The worst had come to pass.
  • You no longer see me there.
  • Tomorrow you will look and see
  • The shadows will be as empty
  • As the bed I warmed so willingly.
  • You’ll seek this woman tomorrow
  • And tomorrow she won’t be there.
