Today She Won’t Be There
June 27th, 2011 by Linda Jenkinson- Today she won’t be there.
- The woman, who captured your attention
- Who sat on the edge of her chair
- As she kept you on the edge of your seat
- And talked for hours.
- Whose flashing eyes reflected your smile.
- Today she won’t be there.
- The woman who engaged you
- In witty repartee for hours on end
- She has her own husband
- And family
- And friends.
- Today you’ll look around and see
- She won’t be there.
- As I sat quietly in the shadows
- And tried not to listen,
- Tried not to see your smile.
- All the while knowing
- The worst had come to pass.
- You no longer see me there.
- Tomorrow you will look and see
- The shadows will be as empty
- As the bed I warmed so willingly.
- You’ll seek this woman tomorrow
- And tomorrow she won’t be there.
