My Mentor

September 18th, 2007 by Linda Jenkinson
  • You stood by me as I walked a road I had not walked.
  • You cleared the path ahead of us whenever it was blocked.
  • You are the breeze that follows the storm.
  • You make the air seem fresh and new.
  • You are the sun that pierces the clouds
  • And dries the tear-splashed dew.
  • You gave me the chance to read a page I hadn’t read.
  • When I couldn’t comprehend, you offered me the pen instead.
  • You traded laughter for my tears
  • When my whole world fell apart.
  • For this and so much more my friend,
  • I’ll keep you in my heart.

This has so many levels and I enjoyed a number of different ones.
I don’t know where you are in terms of religion but on one level I could see this as being the thought process of one of the travellers on the Emmaus road on Easter Sunday.

Hi Keith. Actually the poem is a tribute to my husband. I don’t worship him, but I do adore him. Thanks for stopping by. :)
