Armageddon

  • I. I thought I had an address,
  • but all I had was a PO Box;
  • a place for friends to send the mail
  • when they would care to write.
  • I thought I had a home,
  • but all I had was a place to sleep
  • and a body to seek the warmth of mine
  • in the stillness of the night.
  • I thought I had a family.
  • I thought that you were meant for me.
  • I thought that this would always be,
  • but I guess I wasn’t right.
  • II. I hope someday you’ll look and see
  • what you have lost
  • and realize it was all lost
  • at your insistence.
  • I hope someday you’ll remember this—
  • this, that we had
  • and realize it could have lived
  • with just persistance
  • I hope someday your tears will fall
  • just as did mine
  • and realize that now you weep
  • without resistance
  • I hope someday you search for love
  • just as I sought
  • and realize that what you seek
  • you’ve lost to distance.
