Armageddon
February 20th, 2009 by Linda Jenkinson- I. I thought I had an address,
- but all I had was a PO Box;
- a place for friends to send the mail
- when they would care to write.
- I thought I had a home,
- but all I had was a place to sleep
- and a body to seek the warmth of mine
- in the stillness of the night.
- I thought I had a family.
- I thought that you were meant for me.
- I thought that this would always be,
- but I guess I wasn’t right.
- II. I hope someday you’ll look and see
- what you have lost
- and realize it was all lost
- at your insistence.
- I hope someday you’ll remember this—
- this, that we had
- and realize it could have lived
- with just persistance
- I hope someday your tears will fall
- just as did mine
- and realize that now you weep
- without resistance
- I hope someday you search for love
- just as I sought
- and realize that what you seek
- you’ve lost to distance.
